The Saunder Strong Odyssey

Throughout 4 years of high school Saunder had an enriching opportunity as a mentor for neurodivergent student musicians that were part of a group called The 3 Strings. Saunder was led by one of the most influential people in his life, Ruth LeMay, who remains an incredible gift to our family. Ruth created a methodology that allows students and adults with developmental disabilities to play modern band instruments. Saunder spoke often of his beautiful friendships with the band members. It was a judgement free zone with peers that radiated with love, joy, and appreciation for life. His trip with 3 String musicians to Orlando, Fl to perform at a national conference was a highlight of his high school career. I was intuitively led by Saunder after he passed to invite 3 Strings to perform at his Celebration of Life. I knew it was kismet when Ruth shared that the band wanted to play 500 Miles by The Proclaimers. Saunder loved adventure and the first song on his Road Trip playlist from his Spotify account was Proclaimers, 500 Miles.

This past Fall, in the name of adventure and opportunity, Ruth created The Saunder Strong Odyssey - A foundation that began thanks to a donor that gave generously to 3 Strings in honor of Saunder. The Saunder Strong Odyssey makes adventure affordable for all bandmates as they continue to travel cross country to introduce the revolutionary methodology Ruth created to musicians worldwide.
